New Disk Art Finished

Being green, I transform CD and DVD’s into works of art.
Canvas is glued and trimmed to each individual disk then painted randomly with acrylic colors. Handwritten; using dimensional fabric paints are TV/Movie/Theatre titles and quotes. The disks are also layered to give the faces some depth, using different widths of cut wooden dowels. The portraits are finished with a three color oil paint.

Painting for EUREKA Part 3

A close to finished of my painting for
Eureka! The Moment When Art and Science Collide

The science of my painting is Chemistry. What the interaction of certain chemicals and heat can do to styrofoam was the basis of how my painting would look.

With that thought I continued a painting series that I have started back in 2010. This painting will be the 24th in my WATERY LANDSCAPES HIDDEN WORD SERIES.

After I was happy with the look of the chemicals and heat did to the styrofoam, I then added bright and florescent colors to the background. To also help in sealing the styrofoam various clear acrylics where used.

Then I began to paint my tree-scapes that will contain a WORD. The trees/foliage create the letter and and in turn then creates a WORD.  When you first see my paintings you see the landscape of trees. Twenty two paintings in the series are painted on muslin/canvas with acrylic and oil paints. This painting has more of a 3d look to it. So seeing the word will be easier to find then most of my other paintings. Like all my paintings in this series have a specific look. All the backgrounds are very, I guess you can say abstract. Paint is squirted, sprayed, spattered, dripped and brushed on. Then I use only three color combinations with the oil paints. In this one I use Blue, Crimson and White.

ARTLANDO Competition Painting

Started with a blank canvas at 11:30am and finished by 5pm on Sat. Oct. 27, 2014 at the first ARTLANDO event.  This big one day Art Fest took place in Loch Haven Park, Orlando FL.

"SUBWAY METRO" by Bonnie Sprung

This painting is the first in a new series. I'm still working on a series title.
The series will be of two images of the same but in two different places.

Back in 2002 I was riding the Paris Metro and this accordion player comes onto the car and plays. Of course I photographed him and painted him in oil on wood.

Then recently Sept. 2014 I was riding the New York Subway and this accordion player comes onto the car and plays. Of course I photographed him and thought what a cool concept to paint the two accordion player images together.

Here is the original photographs put together and desaturated the color.

The way I paint.... I use an assortment of bright acrylic colors then I finish off the painting with a combination two or three colors in oil.

For more original paintings and prints you can go to

Enjoy :)

DiskArt Paintings

CD/DVD RIPLEY by Bonnie Sprung ©

This painting can be seen at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in San Fransisco, CA.

There are 150 disks. Each CD and DVD were painted with a variety of acrylic colors; then linked together. The portrait of Robert Ripley was then painted in oils. Along with the final framing the total size is 4'5"x5'5".

When I delivered RIPLEY to the FL warehouse
On May 2, 2014 I debuted a new DiskArt Painting at Faith Arts Village Orlando (FAVO)  221 East Colonial Drive Orlando, FL 32801.

This new DiskArt painting has a total of 207 CD's. What is different from the RIPLEY is that the disks are layered giving it a 3D look. The final size is 5'5"x4'2". The painting is also a portrait of Louis Armstrong and called CD 3D LOUIE.

CD 3D LOUIE has been hanging since May in the Casselberry City Hall, FL. On Sept. 5, 2014 it will hang for a one day show at the Downtown Orlando University Club. This painting is still for sale.

Hanging at Casselberry City Hall, Florida

My DiskArt are created with CD/DVD disks that were old, worn and bad. So instead of them going into the garbage or recycle bin, they have found their way to me and I turned them into cool art. I am always in need of them, so before you toss any, please send them my way. I will give them a new life. One that will put smiles on faces in a new way.

Can You See CARE

"Can You See CARE" is the title of my latest painting for my
Watery Landscape - Hidden Word Series

This series was started back in 2010 and already has been showcased in two solo gallery shows. You can see images on some earlier posts.

"Can You See CARE" by Bonnie Sprung

This painting is 25" x 28" in size.

All originals are for sale. Prices available on request.

Prints on all my paintings are also available. Some are located on my ETSY shop.

To explain the series... Each painting has a hidden word. Some are easy to see, some take a bit longer. The way the trees, leaves and plants are placed create a letter, thus creating a word. Each word is a motivational type word.

I hope you are enjoying my series. If you have a word in mind that I haven't painted yet, Please let me know. Thanks.

Bonnie :)

Past Portraits by Bonnie Sprung

Here are some images of portraits I have painted long ago,
back in the early 1980's.
I like to work from photos.
If I can take the photo myself it's even better.

"Carolyn & Mickey Sprung"
This is an oil painting of my parents wedding photo.
I painted this for their 25th Wedding Anniversary.

"Bell"
This is my Grandmother Bell.... my Dad's Mom.
I've always had a strong connection to her,
even though she passed away when I was only 2 yrs. old.

"Emmett Kelly"
Here is a time when I was really into clowns. I still love them,
but I used to enjoy painting them.
This oil painting was done from photos I found.

Then Circus World opened and I was super happy.
I would go often with camera in hand.
The oil painting below is one that I created from the photos I took.

"Circus World Clowns"

Like any artist my work has gone through several changes.

I thought it would be fun to post some of the paintings
that still hang in my parents home.

More recent portraits I have painted was for a
theatrical production of “The Secret Garden”
at Merritt Island High School.
These were very large and airbrushed on a shark-tooth scrim.

You can find my newest work on this blog and in my ETSY store.
