DiskArt Paintings

CD/DVD RIPLEY by Bonnie Sprung ©

This painting can be seen at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in San Fransisco, CA.

There are 150 disks. Each CD and DVD were painted with a variety of acrylic colors; then linked together. The portrait of Robert Ripley was then painted in oils. Along with the final framing the total size is 4'5"x5'5".

When I delivered RIPLEY to the FL warehouse
On May 2, 2014 I debuted a new DiskArt Painting at Faith Arts Village Orlando (FAVO)  221 East Colonial Drive Orlando, FL 32801.

This new DiskArt painting has a total of 207 CD's. What is different from the RIPLEY is that the disks are layered giving it a 3D look. The final size is 5'5"x4'2". The painting is also a portrait of Louis Armstrong and called CD 3D LOUIE.

CD 3D LOUIE has been hanging since May in the Casselberry City Hall, FL. On Sept. 5, 2014 it will hang for a one day show at the Downtown Orlando University Club. This painting is still for sale.

My DiskArt are created with CD/DVD disks that were old, worn and bad. So instead of them going into the garbage or recycle bin, they have found their way to me and I turned them into cool art. I am always in need of them, so before you toss any, please send them my way. I will give them a new life. One that will put smiles on faces in a new way.

Donation to BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation

Back in February 2013 I created a project that helps raise money for BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation.

With this project I create a type of Artist Trading Card called an ACEO (Art Card Edition and Original)

You can read more on how I got started and why on my first blog post on this project. Posted Wed. Feb. 6, 2013 at
http://uniquelysprung.blogspot.com/2013/02/bonnies-aceo-project-for-cause.html

Every time I created an ACEO card and someone has made a donation for one, I numbered the back, signed it and scanned it. The reason I make sure I have a digital copy of the image; is for another future project to raise more money for BASE Camp.

To date I am up to number 93 ACEO cards. The minimum donation for a card is $3.00 but many have donated more. My first donation of money raised was presented today to Terri Jones in the amount of $250.00.

Maybe after more people read this post and my earlier posts that they will want to donate for a cool motivational word ACEO card and the next check will be even bigger.

This photo is a gift I promised when I first met Terri Jones and Cindy Crespo-Whitaker. The first four ACEO cards I created are of BASE (Believe, Achieve, Support and Educate). I framed them for their new office.

Here I am presenting Terri Jones with a $250.00 cashiers check.

Bamboo or is It?

I recently had the opportunity to do a fun job....

Turn PVC into BAMBOO.

As a set designer and scenic artist, I have used PVC for many
projects. One of them was to make it look like bamboo,
but when the use is for the stage just painting the sticks was enough.

This project was for the bamboo to be very realistic. So first I did a little
web research and found a few ways to create that bamboo look.

The one that was right for me was to score and heat the growth joints
of the stalk. I found that using an electric barbecue charcoal starter was
perfect for scoring and heating the plastic.

After scoring and heating, squeeze the pipe to get that realistic look.
This project required 2 inch PVC. The smaller the size of the pipe, the easier it
is to press and get that growth bump.

Then it was time to prime and paint after you have used acetone to clean the
writing off the pipe and light sanding for the pant to stick better.

The paint I decided to use was an acrylic enamel. Bamboo has many looks, with
a variety of natural colors. Deeper tones is the way I wanted to go. Starting with
some bright yellows, oranges and greens as my first under layer.

Using red, black, yellow, orange and white I created different tones of browns.
Each being painted on with a chip brush. These brushes are inexpensive and
the bristles give that textured wood grain look.

After the body of the stalk was painted then the I enhanced the growth
joints with a little black and white. Real bamboo also has a sheen. With
that in mind, adding a clear polyurethane coat also adds protection to the paint.

These finished Faux Bamboo sticks will be used for an upcoming event down in Miami. They will be placed over metal piping, used to light several tables. Then they will be available again for rent.

If you have an event that needs specialty lighting and decor please go to

Photos from upcoming event using these bamboo sticks will be added later this month.

Bonnie's ACEO Project Update 4

The doodling of a fun Motivational Word on a simple two and half by three and a half size mixed media paper is what creates my ACEO card.

This is a project I started back in Feb. of 2013 to help BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation. With each card created, a big portion of the donation goes to help fund what is needed for the kids and their families of BASE Camp.

There are several ways you can get one or more Motivational ACEO Cards.

There is a link on this post and my earlier posts that you can send in your
donation by PayPal. If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn you know that I do several Art events a month and I always have my ACEO cards and supplies on hand. You can get one that I have already created or I'll create your favorite word at that time. If time is short I will mail it to you.

Here are a few ACEO cards that have been purchased during an Art stroll or Networking meeting.

Most of the time you can find me during the month at:

1st Wed. Wine and Art Stroll in Lake Mary
1st Friday FAVO - Faith Arts Village Orlando
2nd Thurs. Wine and Art Stroll in Thornton Park
3rd Thurs. Church St. Art Stroll
occasionally I am at 4th Fri. Art Stroll Downtown Sanford

Please share this post and my earlier posts.
The first will also explain why I am doing this.

Noah's Ark Mural - Temple Israel Children's Library

I was commissioned to paint a mural for Temple Israel's new Children's Library.

This is to honor the life and love of books - ETHAN GOLD

This was made possible by

THE FRIENDS OF ETHAN GOLD CHILDREN'S LIBRARY FUND

The images of the this mural were given to me by the client who found
what she wanted from the internet. Using those images as a guide, I also added
my own style to the mural.

Here is a slide show of the progress from start to finish.

Bonnie's ACEO Project Update 3

What puts a smile on kids faces.... Fun Art.

On Friday nights BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation
brings dinner and a movie to the kids at several hospitals.
I have been creating fun art for some of the kids at Arnold Palmer Hospital.

Bonnie's ACEO Project for a Cause is helping
BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation

This Project puts smiles on faces all around. The ones I do for the kids at the
hospital and for everyone else who would love to donate a few dollars to
get an original ACEO art card for themselves or for a gift.

Each card is numbered and recorded. Eventually many of the cards will be published
as an ABC Motivational book.

Recently Base Camp was one of the charities at a fund-raising event (Xtreme Dance Studio BASE CAMP event 2nd Annual Wine Soirée at The Vineyard Wine Company in Lake Mary, Florida.)  I set up a table with Original ACEO cards that could be purchased that night.
The ones sold I numbered and recorded.

In my earlier blog posts you can read on how and why I got this project started.
