180 CD's - 116 were painted with acrylics and fabric paints. The 49 portraits were started in Acrylics then finished with Oil paint. Each portrait took around 2 to 3 hours to paint.

The opening reception was on Thursday, April 19th from 6-9 PM at the CityArts Factory in Orlando Florida. 

A secondary opening featuring a public talk by scholars on the social impact of monument will take place in the gallery on May 3rd from 6-9pm

New Disk Art Finished

Being green, I transform CD and DVD’s into works of art.

Canvas is glued and trimmed to each individual disk then painted randomly with acrylic colors. Handwritten; using dimensional fabric paints are TV/Movie/Theatre titles and quotes. The disks are also layered to give the faces some depth, using different widths of cut wooden dowels. The portraits are finished with a three color oil paint.

New Disk Art Started

 So I finally got a chance to start a new Disk Art Painting. 

 Of who... not sure yet. 

 But the first layer of disks have been put together.

This painting can be seen at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in San Fransisco, CA.

There are 150 disks. Each CD and DVD were painted with a variety of acrylic colors; then linked together. The portrait of Robert Ripley was then painted in oils. Along with the final framing the total size is 4'5"x5'5".

When I delivered RIPLEY to the FL warehouse

On May 2, 2014 I debuted a new DiskArt Painting at Faith Arts Village Orlando (FAVO)  221 East Colonial Drive Orlando, FL 32801.

This new DiskArt painting has a total of 207 CD's. What is different from the RIPLEY is that the disks are layered giving it a 3D look. The final size is 5'5"x4'2". The painting is also a portrait of Louis Armstrong and called CD 3D LOUIE.

 CD 3D LOUIE has been hanging since May in the Casselberry City Hall, FL. On Sept. 5, 2014 it will hang for a one day show at the Downtown Orlando University Club. This painting is still for sale.

My DiskArt are created with CD/DVD disks that were old, worn and bad. So instead of them going into the garbage or recycle bin, they have found their way to me and I turned them into cool art. I am always in need of them, so before you toss any, please send them my way. I will give them a new life. One that will put smiles on faces in a new way.
 

DISK ART Show

For the month of September I will be showing what I call DISK ART.


The funny thing about this art is that I really never cared too much about abstract art, but all of a sudden I found myself just having fun with colors, different paints and techniques. So inturn the art is abstract. The disks that I use are CD’s and DVD’s that I recycle. They are one’s that were bad or have gone bad, scratched, etc. Now they have a new life in Fun Art.

A Show for Small Work

I’m excited, last year Liz Watkins came up with a brilliant idea to have a show at Wally's Mills Avenue Liquors. And Urban Stew presented Stories from the Cocktail Napkin. It was a hit. Wally’s is this small bar that’s been there forever. There is a liquor store upfront and the bar in the back. So when it comes to wall space for a show there is none. Clothesline hung and the clothespins displayed the art over the patrons heads. Not so high that you can’t see the art. Every time a piece was sold, it was replaced with new or spread out to get a better view.

Oh, but why am I excited. This year’s show; Another Round: Small art for a small venue! Tuesday, January 13, 2009 – 8-11pm. Once again it is at Wally's Mills Avenue Liquors
1001 N. Mills Ave. Orlando, FL 32803.

If you happen to be in the Orlando area, stop on in and buy some art. As Liz says “Don't miss the most talked about art show in Orlando.” This is a one night only exhibit. Original art that is no bigger than 7 inches and prices start at $5 and up.
